A favorite photo can be engraved on to a 6x6 piece of black marble. This is not any old piece of marble purchased at a local Home Depot. These marble pieces have been imported from Asia. This pure black marble has a smooth polished surface with a very fine grain that results in a very detailed engraving of a photo. As you can see from the example the engraved the image appears just like the photo, but engraved on marble.
